“Bill Caram, executive director of the Pipeline Safety Trust, a Bellingham, Wash.-based advocacy group, offered a “big thank you” to Markey for getting the mandate for the rules written into law.
Administration officials also cast the rules as a part of President Joe Biden’s efforts to reduce methane emissions from pipelines and natural gas infrastructure.
The proposal, known as a notice of proposed rulemaking, is to be published soon in the Federal Register, though PHMSA officials had not yet provided a date as of Thursday. Once it’s published, members of the public will have 60 days to submit comments about it.”
