As Bluegrass Pipeline Gets Attention, Competing Project Looms

By Ryan Quinn and The State Journal, weku.fm (March 2, 2014) – Carl Weimer, executive director of the Pipeline Safety Trust, ….  said the federal Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration put Kinder Morgan on a rare notice for not just one incident, but for a ‘broad swath’ of its hazardous liquids transporting system in the western United States. He said he heard regulators were concerned that Kinder Morgan, a relatively new company, was acquiring old pipelines very rapidly. ‘There were some concerns whether they knew history of pipelines well enough to operate them well…’  Weimer said studies are needed to determine whether pipelines originally meant to transport gas can safely transport liquids, which have more weight and pressure and can place more fatigue to pipelines.”
