  1. Based on 2012 PHMSA data with a datafile date of 7/31/13, downloaded on 9/5/13.
  2. Based on 2011 PHMSA data with a datafile date of 6/28/13, downloaded on 7/22/13.
  3. 2011 and 2012 data characterize this as “CO2;” 2006 and 2009 data characterize this as “CO2 only” and contain an additional category of “CO2 or other nonflammable non-toxic fluids”
  4. Reflecting another data category change between 2009 and 2011, “anhydrous amonia” is no longer included as a category, and “fuel grade ethanol” has been added as a category.
  5. 2011 and 2012 data refer to “anomalies repaired” and 2006 and 2009 data refer to “anomalies excavated.”
  6. 2006 & 2009 data refer to “total number of hydrostatic test failures repaired during calendar year”, rather than specifying repairs due to testing.
  7. 2006 & 2009 data group direct assessment and ‘other’ techniniques together into a single category, and do not report them separately.
